Supporting the small businesses, industries, and corporations here in Kalkaska is our number one goal. The objective is to establish a vibrant, attractive business district that meets the needs of the community and enhances the quality of life for its residents and all who visit. See below for a listing of current and ongoing projects.

NORTH COUNTRY TRAILHEAD

Located on US 131, the North Country Trailhead will provide parking, a reroute of the trail, bridges across the Boardman River, and a handicap access to the river.

PEDESTRIAN FRIENDLY ALLEYWAY

Working with property owners on input for a pedestrian friendly redesign of the alleyway and parking lot to the west of the 300 block of South Cedar Street.

STREETSCAPE EXTENSION

Designing a Streetscape extension from Fifth Street north to M-72 West, and Elm Street west from Cedar Street to Hyde Street with input from the businesses along the routes.

EXPANDING COMMUNITY HOUSING

Developing plans to meet the housing needs of the community.

ENABLING WI-FI CAPABILITIES

Collaborating with the Kalkaska County Library on Wi-Fi for the entire Railroad Square complex.

PROMOTING WORK OPPORTUNITIES

Partnering with Michigan Works for a local in-person job fair. This is scheduled for September 8th, check back for more information.

FUNDRAISING

Assisting the Kalkaska County Library in fundraising efforts for a new facility.

RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE

Working with C2AE Engineering and Architects on acquiring a USMDOT grant for the planning of a major rail infrastructure project.

EVENTS

Planning, partnering with and supporting community organizations on events to attract visitors and create a vibrant community. Some of these events include the seasonal Farmers' Market, the Downtown Strolls, Fall color tours, the Iceman Cometh Race, Winterfest, and many more!

MARKETING

Cultivating modern marketing tactics and strategies to establish a vibrant, attractive business district that meets the needs of the community and enhances the quality of life for its residents and visitors.
